RIGHTEOUS RAGE
Not getting anywhere with your insurance dispute? Customer service keeping their distance from anything close to service? Are the maintenance guys standing you up? Fret not, for I have heard the answer to all your prayers. Over the course of a year, I had been told to stand up for myself. Be assertive. Lose it. Get mad. Allegedly, all one had to do to open the doors to salvation was scream about it.
I have yet to try this innovative technique mind you. I’ve just heard from a friend that it might work. Results may vary.
A DEBUT SHOUT-OUT
I believe this was our real entry point in portraying anger on film. In most movies, we see the characters shout and smash things, stutter to themselves in the mirror, or cry out at the sky, but none of those felt quite authentic enough. Let’s show a meltdown as they feel in reality. Pathetic helplessness. Underneath the bluff of all anger issues lies the stinging betrayal of dashed hopes. Barking without teeth.

BELIEVING IS SEEING
With a limited budget, we needed to find ways for the audience to be shocked and invested in the desperation of our characters without depicting anything elaborate. The challenge became stitching together a visual and performance to get across the concept of real pain, using only what we had immediately available in your common kitchen.
