DOUGHNUT RUN

A guy waits for a friend.

A CYNIC’S DREAM

Let’s have our college kids argue and hypothesize about everything they don’t understand. Let’s vent without justification. Let’s tell a college story where none of the plans or decisions matter over time. What is left to capture is the pure, ignorant negativity of one staring up at the mountain in front of them.

KEEP IT ROLLING

To keep the flow of the dialogue feeling as natural as possible, the entire scene was filmed for several shots rather than capturing the moments in pieces, separately. This approach favored performances, giving the actors room to breathe and portray the roles as almost second nature.

SUBTLY BENDING TIME

As we transition from the framing device, we cut back to the past in a natural insert shot to show what the guy had seen over across the room from before. When we see our guy back at his table, he’s dressed younger and is now joined by his friend, and they pick up their conversation from where they had left off. Similarly, we return to the present once we look back over to the corner at the end to see it empty now, and before we know it, our guy is alone again at his table.
