INSTRUCTOR
A martial arts instructor cannot defend himself when his car gets stolen.
DIPPING THE TOE
Let’s just go for it. Let’s do a fight scene. Let’s add a dose of healthy irony, but otherwise, let’s do a real fight scene. A couple actually. Unlike other martial arts movies, let’s not only let the master fail, but let’s also instill some doubt in the minds of the audience. Can he actually defend himself? Is he capable of practicing what he preaches? Can he do his job?
IN THE DARK
One of the main challenges to shooting exterior night scenes, let alone, a fight scene, was finding natural sources for light. We needed the audience to still be able to read the emotion of a face or the hit of a swing, but we also needed it to look natural. Using the available light of the setting and strategically placing lights to emphasize where the light was already pooling helped maintain a best-of-both-worlds approach.

PICTURE IN A PICTURE
I’ve never been completely enamored with being photographed or having to stumble upon them every now and then. There is no harsher judge or more disappointing glare than from that of a picture of your past.
