I SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM
A boy cries over spilt ice cream.
A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
Let’s do a nostalgic jaunt. Let’s take us back to childhood. I pitched the idea as a chance to show a boy grow out of his childish temper issues but without a speech or even recognition. The motivation for his growth is internal and yet beyond his grasp. We can see that he has potentially cried himself out over time, that he has lived through enough disappointment to know it’s not worth it. Or, he’ll throw a fit tomorrow. Hard to say really.
WEATHERING THE STORM
To establish the pattern of the boy’s temper, we had to utilize four locations, unlike our usual focus on one setting. The crew had to find ways to quickly work in multiple live environments that helped establish the scope. To sell the development by the end, we had to experience the boy making the same mistake in multiple ways over time, proving the challenge worth it.

A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE
To stay in the mind of the boy, the entire film follows him on his level. The adults’ faces are rarely visible, and the world towers over us as we run through the house. His problems become the only problems on our minds as the ongoing issues with his parents stay present and yet unexplored and in the background.
