MADE MEN
A moving story.
I SPY
Let’s go back. Let’s go back all the way to 2020’s Tenet. While most scratched their heads at the intricately paradoxical plot mechanics, I immediately understood that I could never aspire to such ambitions and settled for enviously obsessing over the inner workings of their jet-setting lifestyles. Mumbai. Tallinn. Amalfi. The spies in these stories bounce from coast to coast across the world without a care, while I can’t manage a direct flight to Atlanta. Let’s then take the spy genre. Take the typical spies on a typical spy mission. And, let’s have them struggle to pack in time let alone get on the plane.
Tenet remains underrated and deserves at least ten viewings.
MUST BE ABLE TO LIFT 50LBs
This film marked the last time we would shoot in our Roswell setting. As we were literally packing to leave, we also staged a scene that implemented our current struggles. Each take required our crew to dress and undress the scene, carrying out chairs, lamps, tables, and shelves. There is a comforting irony in our spy characters needing to take a moment to prepare for this change in their lives. Moving is a lot of work.

DON’T KNOCK IT TILL YOU TRY IT
It was only a matter of time. The oner. We had to do it. Over the course of about 4 hours, we rehearsed a dance that kept the environment ever-changing within the frame. Opting to avoid the handheld techniques and quick-cutting edits that have become a staple of our filmography, we relied on a dolly and natural performances to rack up the desperation our characters feel. Patience too. We relied on a lot of patience.
