SHOOT THE CANARY

An aggravating first-contact event.

A CLOSE ENCOUNTER

Let’s flip Close Encounters of the Third Kind from obsessive optimism to frustrated indifference, toss in a little Men In Black for good measure. What happens when the most important historical event is inconvenient? Or misunderstood? Or just generally not recognized? It’s just not a good time for big news. I mean, surely, we can’t all be expected to drop everything we are doing to follow the signs right?

I do still like Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

ALL PRACTICAL

Without a doubt, this project provided the most challenging physical stunts yet. We stepped out of moving cars, with one foot, slowly. We smashed our hands against the granite until we bled, one cut, a splash of blood. We kicked down the doors of our own limitations.

THAT’S A GOOD TRICK

Rather than moving the camera to highlight action or reveal new elements at play, these camera moves were organically placed to emphasize reaction. A change in tone. A change in focus. A change in understanding. We wanted to visually communicate to the audience that the characters are shifting gears to keep them engaged and informed as the main question of the film is unraveled.
