TRAINING WHEELS
A girl tries to ditch the training wheels.
THE LEARNING CURVE
Let’s do a training arc. Let’s tell the story of a girl learning the ropes, but instead of a quick montage, let’s use a more deliberate pacing. The challenge she must overcome is not an internal lack of faith or courage, but an external restriction that she has no control over. As the training wheels persist, they stand not to safely guide the learning process but to gatekeep achievement. It’s a story about learning with no lesson, of reaching for the stars only to question why they were ever important in the first place.
A BRIGHT DAY
One day. One really bright day in Spring. The crew had to figure out how to capture the story in a way that compensates for the extreme lighting changes (see ND filters). Working diligently to beat the clock and race the Sun, we were able to focus on footage that leaned into the lens flares. When paired with an overexposed color scheme, the film lends itself to a dream-like state.

YOU NEVER FORGET
Tracking shots. Lots of them. The film contains our longest string of tracking shots, following Thelma as she rides her bike further and further. We used a steadicam rig to capture the shots, and the forearms still have not recovered.
